Posted by admin on Thursday, 14 July, 2011

It is known to us all that digital cameras are a kind of cameras which use electronic sensors to transfer optical images into electronic data. A digital camera is an integration product which collects the optics, machinery and electronics. It integrates video information conversion, storage and transmission parts, with the characteristics of digital access mode, computer interactive processing and real-time filming, etc. Digital cameras first appeared in the United States. More than 20 years ago, the United States used them to transport photos to the ground by satellites. Later digital photography transmitted to civilian use and expanded the scope of application constantly.

The widely use of digital cameras brought great convenience to people in modern society. The reason why they are so popular is because they have many advantages. Firstly, people can see the images immediately after taking pictures. It provides the possibility of remaking dissatisfied pictures and reduces the incidence of regret. Secondly, people may only pay money for those photos that they want to flush, as to those photos which they don’t need can be deleted directly. Thirdly, color reduction and color range no longer rely on the quality of the film. Lastly, the sensitivity is no longer fixed by the film, and photoelectric conversion chip can provide a variety of choice of sensitivity.

A Powerful Panasonic, With Optional 3-D

Posted by admin on Wednesday, 10 November, 2010

Panasonic has put some impressive horsepower under the hood of its new Lumix DMC-GH2 Micro Four Thirds camera. And it will need that processing lift to handle an interchangeable 3-D lens—the world’s first—designed for Panasonic’s MFT cameras.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH2

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH2

The Lumix DMC-GH2 sports a new three-core engine that enables it to output full 1080 video at 60 frames per second (fps), shoot bursts at 5 fps, and handle 3-D image processing (sorry, no 3-D video). Panasonic says the new Venus FHN engine also enables the camera to focus as fast as 0.1 second. I had a few hands-on minutes with the camera several weeks ago, and its autofocus was impressively fast and accurate, at least in the context conference-room shooting.

The GH2 has a new 16.05-megapixel MOS sensor that also gives it an edge in video-capture capabilities. The camera supports a native video bit rate of 24 megabits per second, the highest in the AVCHD format, which should pretty much guarantee improved video over its predecessor, the DMC-GH1. Also new: You can connect the camera to a video monitor via mini HDMI while recording video.

The camera’s 3-inch LCD has a resolution of 1.53 million dots, a slight improvement over the GH1. I really like the enhanced and intuitive touch-screen interface, which has some cool features. For instance, you can identify a face by touching it and the AF system will track the person as he or she moves. You also can tap the touch-screen to adjust focus.

The GH2 will ship in late November at a cost of $900 (body only). Panasonic will offer two kits: a $1,000 package with a 14mm to 42mm lens and $1,500 kit with a 14mm to 140mm lens with a silent zoom for video.

Panasonic also showed the $250 3-D Micro Four Thirds lens, officially known as the Lumix G 12.5mm/F12 (H-FT012). The lens, which works only with still photos, has two optical systems in one lens mount that snap left and right images and then processes them to create a 3-D MPO file. (The camera always saves a JPEG, so you’ll have a 2-D option, too.)

You’ll need a 3-D TV, and the pesky glasses, to view 3D images. Panasonic showed a dozen or images snapped with the lens and they were stunning—the best I’ve seen taken with a 3-D camera.

The lens will be backward-compatible with other Panasonic MFT models but you’ll need to update the firmware. Panasonic says the 3-D lens requires an advanced processor, so it may slow many older cameras. And if you have an Olympus MFT, you’re out of luck: Panasonic says the 3-D lens won’t work with other brands because they lack the necessary firmware. No word if Panasonic will make it available.
