As a part of computers, keyboards play an important role. However, a computer keyboard is evolved from English typewriter keyboard. With the rapid development of computers, keyboards have been improving very fast.

There are a variety of keyboards in the markets. According to the working principle, keyboards can be divided into mechanical keyboards, membrane keyboards, capacitive keyboards and conductive rubber keyboards. A mechanical keyboard is the structure that was used earliest, which use the principle that similar to metal-contact switches to turn on or off the contacts. In a word, it has the features of simple process, convenient maintenance, large noise and easy to wear. A membrane keyboards can also be called a silent and waterproof keyboard. There is a piece of double film in it. It may generate very low noise when you press the buttons. The flexible silicones under each button can do water-proof treatment. In case you accidentally pour some water into the keyboard, it’s not easy to cause your keyboard damage. A capacitive keyboard has many advantages. On one hand, it has small noise. On the other hand, it is easy to control touch and can generate many keyboards of high quality. However, the technology is more complex than mechanical structures. Conductive rubber keyboards are becoming more and more popular. They are widely adopted by keyboard manufacturers.

So far, the present computer manufacturers are mainly committed to improve the quality and appearance of keyboards. With the development of scientific technology, maybe virtual keyboards are one of its development directions in the future. People can use the technology of laser projection to create a kind of virtual keyboards which are easy to carry and can save much space.
